LIFE: DOWN THE HOME
STRETCH

It’s a fact that we
live life one day at a time,
And “time waits for no man”, they say.
But at my age there’s just not too much of it left,
And that part is slipping away.
Will I live to be
90? I sure have my doubts.
But 80 I think I can do,
70’s in sight - from “one side or the other”
But which side I’m not tellin’ you.
60 was great while
it lasted,
At 50 I was “king of the hill”,
When 40, the stork was still flying around,
With a bundle of joy in his bill.
Now 30, that’s when
I was smartest,
Convinced that I knew everything,
Except, how to pay the rent every month,
And find some way to live like a king.
Not sure that I
ever was 20,
If I was, it must have been nice.
For once in a while I vaguely remember,
Ignoring the preacher’s advice.
Teen years were
spent in the country,
We were poor, but we made it some way,
Just couldn’t wait ‘till I turned 17,
Joined the navy and anchors aweigh.
The family at our
house included six kids,
In order of birth, I was third.
Won’t say much about it, just show you my picture,
For kids should be seen and not heard.
Life like a dollar
just doesn’t last long,
Soon all you have left is some change.
But ‘change’ is the way you can turn things around,
If your life needs to be rearranged.
It’s never too late
to start mending fences,
It’s never too late to repent.
t never too late to tell someone “I love You”.
Until you have spent your last cent. |
